Alternative medicine
Acupuncture is an alternative medicine based on traditional chinese medicine and requires a full clinical examination that focuses on assessing the person’s energetic state. Following the assessment, a diagnosis is formed and the treatment plan is established. The treatment consists in energetic stimulation by the use of needles in precise areas (acupuncture points) of the skin, subcutaneous tissues, or mucosal lining. In addition to the use of needles, the acupuncturist can use several other techniques such as heat, pressure, electrical current, or light rays during stimulation of the acupuncture points.
The acupuncture sites that are stimulated during the same treatment form one intervention that the acupuncturist can modify according to the patient’s state and health.
Various authors agree that acupuncture is a true and efficient therapeutic method. A medicine on it’s own, acupuncture is a discipline that is interested in affections of the human body.
